Northern Sweden’s most modern wagon workshop
Adjacent to the Umeå freight yard is northern Sweden’s most modern wagon workshop. Short, well-planned maintenance stops for Norrtåg’s vehicle fleet are carried out here.
The facility consists of three halls that house washes, lifting devices, wheel turning and de-icing facilities, as well as areas for servicing and repairs. The facility is well-adapted for efficient vehicle maintenance. Thanks to hot air de-icing, it has been possible to halve the de-icing time compared to before, and the possibility of wheel turning is absolutely decisive for maintaining efficient passenger services in the four northernmost counties.
The wagon workshop was built when the Bothnia Line was completed in 2010 and is owned by our subsidiary, Umeå Vagnverkstad AB. In 2020, the wagon workshop was expanded, strengthening the ability to transport Norrtåg’s vehicle fleet.
